As you’ll remember from last month, our electric bill was $318. What in the world was happening over here? I still have no idea. Regardless, we decided to be more intentional with our electric usage this past month, in the hopes that our bill would be lower in August.
I was hoping for a dramatic decrease, but in my heart I knew it would still be high. We use a lot of electricity, and I’m not willing to do anything drastic – like turning off our air conditioning or line drying our clothes. Basically, we are spoiled, and I intend to keep it that way.
We did take small steps to decrease our electric usage over the past few weeks. I say “we,” but it was mainly John. He unplugged things and made an effort to turn off the ceiling fans. I, on the other hand, realized that I am incapable of remembering to turn off anything.
Our bill finally arrived last week. On pins and needles, I opened the envelope. It was $272. Gulp. That is still a very expensive bill. However, we did make progress in the right direction. We managed to bring our bill down by $46, so I am calling it a win. Could we have done better? Definitely. But I am choosing to look on the bright side.
I am excited about the fall, and the temperature drop that will accompany the changing seasons. It will be nice to finally turn the air conditioning off and open the windows for a cool breeze. And, of course, it will be great to finally have a manageable electric bill.
Has your electric bill gone up this summer? With everyone spending more time at home, I imagine that most people are seeing an increase in their bills this year. We’d love to hear about your experience!
